Swami Akhandananda had started an Ashrama at Sargachi and orphan boys were brought up with care. When they came of age many went away without taking leave of Swami Akhandananda. One glance at his tearful face would convey to the most casual observer the motherly heart that he had. One day he said: ‘I felt sad to think how some of the boys leave me, even though they received more care from me than they might have got from their own parents. They feel no attraction; they don’t even care to look back; they have no love. Such were the thoughts passing through my mind, when Master said to me from within: “My dear boy, worldly love can never be yours. You are surrounded by my love alone, and there can be no other attachments for you.” Then I understood the reason. Peace came back to my heart. They may stay or leave; what do I care? It is just a temporary relationship.’
